In 1910, the Philadelphia Mint struck a total of 604,000 gold half eagles, each carrying a face value of five dollars. This particular coin has been certified in Mint State 62 (MS-62) condition, preserving the intricate details of one of the most distinctive design concepts in the history of United States coinage. Unlike traditional coins with raised features, this gold piece utilizes an incuse design, meaning the details are sunken below the flat surface of the coin. The obverse displays a left-facing Native American chief wearing a traditional feathered headdress, surrounded by stars, with the date 1910 at the bottom. The reverse depicts a proud eagle standing on a bundle of arrows, wrapped in an olive branch. The classic national mottos, including the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," are carefully integrated into the design alongside the country name and the five-dollar denomination. Because it was produced at the main Philadelphia facility, the coin features no mint mark.
