In 1910, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 604,000 gold five-dollar coins, commonly known as the Indian Head Half Eagle. This particular specimen has survived the decades in an extraordinary state of preservation, earning a high grade of Mint State 65 (MS-65). Strikingly distinct from traditional coinage, this series features an incuse design, meaning the details and inscriptions are sunken below the flat surface of the coin rather than raised above it. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, this coin contains 0.2419 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse displays the year 1910 and a detailed portrait of a Native American chief wearing a traditional feathered headdress. Because this coin was minted in Philadelphia, it does not bear a mint mark, distinguishing it from issues struck at branch mints during the same era.
