This ten-dollar gold coin from 1910 represents a bold departure from traditional American coinage design. Created by the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty adorned with a Native American war bonnet. Thirteen stars arch over her head, representing the original colonies, while her hair band displays the word LIBERTY. The year of issue is positioned at the bottom. The reverse side of the coin showcases a proud bald eagle standing amidst inscriptions that declare the nation of origin and the face value. The phrases UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN DOLLARS are all clearly visible. Although this issue was struck at the Denver Mint, which produced 2,356,640 of these pieces in 1910, coins from this specific run do not bear a mint mark. Struck in 90 percent pure gold, each coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. Surviving in Extra Fine condition, this specimen offers a fascinating window into early twentieth-century American art and metallic history, showcasing the intricate details of Saint-Gaudens' vision.
