In 1910, the Denver Mint produced a twenty-dollar gold coin that remains a high point of American numismatic art. This double eagle contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, representing a standard of precious metal coinage from an era before 1933 when gold circulated freely. Designed by the celebrated sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the series ran from 1907 until 1933, capturing a sense of movement and national optimism. The front of the coin displays a powerful depiction of Lady Liberty. She is shown in stride, holding a lit torch to illuminate the way forward while carrying an olive branch as a symbol of peace. On the reverse, a magnificent bald eagle is captured in mid-flight, soaring across the design. The back also bears the clear inscriptions of the issuing nation, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", alongside the face value of "TWENTY DOLLARS".
