1910-S $10 Indian Gold Eagle MS-62 NGC

0.4838 troy oz .900 1910 NGC

In 1910, the San Francisco Mint struck a gold piece that remains a striking example of American coinage. This ten dollar denomination, composed of 0.900 fine gold, contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents a fascinating era of United States coinage where traditional symbols were reimagined in bold new ways. The obverse of the coin features a unique depiction of Lady Liberty. Instead of her traditional crown or cap, she wears an Native American war bonnet. The word LIBERTY is clearly inscribed upon her hair band, and thirteen stars encircle her profile, representing the original colonies. The year 1910 is displayed at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle stands proudly. The bird is surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination. The traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is also present. A subtle S mint mark indicates its origin at the San Francisco Mint, which produced 811,000 of these pieces. Adding to its distinctiveness, the edge of the coin features raised stars instead of the typical reeding.
