1911 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle MS-61 NGC

0.1209 troy oz .900 1911 NGC

The 1911 gold quarter eagle represents a fascinating departure from traditional coinage methods. Struck with an incuse design, the details of this two and a half dollar piece are recessed below the flat surface rather than raised above it. This unusual technique gives the coin a distinctively flat profile and a unique tactile quality that sets it apart from almost all other American currency of its era. On the obverse, the coin displays a detailed depiction of Liberty wearing a traditional Native American war bonnet. This central figure is encircled by thirteen stars, representing the original colonies, along with the word LIBERTY and the 1911 year of issue. The reverse of the coin is dominated by a majestic bald eagle standing proudly. Surrounding the eagle are the classic inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the denomination of 2 1/2 DOLLARS. This specific coin has been certified in Mint State 61 (MS-61) condition. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, it contains 0.1209 troy ounces of precious metal. Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, this series was minted from 1908 to 1929, with the 1911 issue belonging to a total mintage of 704,000 pieces.
