In 1911, the Philadelphia facility of the United States Mint produced this twenty dollar gold piece, a denomination often referred to as a double eagle. Containing 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900, this issue belongs to a celebrated series that spanned from 1907 to 1933. The coin represents a famous era of American coinage, bringing together exceptional artistry and precious metal. The front of the coin showcases Liberty in a forward stride, holding a lit torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Behind her, rays of sunlight stream upward from the horizon. On the back, a majestic bald eagle is captured mid-flight across the design. The reverse also bears the bold inscriptions identifying the nation as the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA alongside the face value of TWENTY DOLLARS. This entire visual concept was crafted by the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
