1911-D $20 St Gaudens Gold Double Eagle MS-63 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1911 MS-63 (PCGS)

In 1911, the Denver Mint produced a spectacular twenty-dollar gold piece that remains a high point in United States numismatic art. This coin, composed of 0.900 fine gold and containing 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal, represents a period often called the Renaissance of American Coinage. The design was envisioned by the celebrated sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who sought to bring a classical, high-relief aesthetic to the nation's circulating currency. The front of the coin displays a powerful image of Lady Liberty stepping forward, illuminated by the rays of a rising sun. In her hands, she carries a burning torch to light the way and an olive branch representing peace. On the opposite side, a majestic bald eagle is captured mid-flight, soaring across a sunlit sky. The reverse also bears the bold inscriptions indicating the nation of origin, United States of America, alongside the face value of Twenty Dollars. This particular specimen has survived the decades in remarkable condition, graded as Mint State 63 (MS-63). Because many pre-1933 gold coins were melted down or lost to circulation, finding an example from the Denver facility in this certified state offers an exciting glimpse into early twentieth-century craftsmanship.
