0.9675 troy oz .900 1911 NGC

In 1911, the Denver Mint produced a remarkable run of 846,500 gold coins that remain celebrated examples of American coinage. This twenty dollar piece, struck from 0.900 fine gold with a gold weight of 0.9675 troy ounces, represents a high point in national coinage design. Conceived as a tribute to the spirit of American freedom and the height of skilled craftsmanship, the coin is the result of a creative partnership between sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and his assistant Fred Hoadley. The obverse presents a powerful depiction of Lady Liberty moving forward, illuminated by brilliant rays of sunlight. In her hands, she carries a torch to light the way and an olive branch representing peace. The word Liberty and the 1911 date are clearly visible on this side. On the reverse, a majestic eagle glides gracefully over a sunlit horizon. The inscriptions on this side include United States of America, Twenty Dollars, and the motto In God We Trust, while the small D mint mark indicates its origin at the Denver facility.
