1911 Great Britain Gold Half Sovereign George V BU

0.1177 troy oz .9167 1911 Brilliant Unc

Struck at the Royal Mint in 1911, this gold half sovereign marks the beginning of a brief five year production window for the series, which concluded in 1915. The coin is composed of 91.67 percent gold, containing exactly 0.1177 troy ounces of actual precious metal weight. It survives today in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of its initial minting over a century ago. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of King George V, surrounded by partial Latin inscriptions including GEORGIVS and OMN:REX. This side represents the first year of his coinage, celebrating his ascension to the throne. On the reverse, the legendary battle between Saint George and the dragon unfolds on horseback, a classic masterpiece originally created by Benedetto Pistrucci. His initials, B.P., are visible alongside the 1911 year of issue. This specific release had a total mintage of 6,104,000 pieces, representing a fascinating era of British sovereign history.
