The 1911 half eagle represents a bold departure from traditional coinage methods. Struck in 0.2419 ounces of gold, this five dollar piece features an incuse design where the details are pressed deep into the coin surface rather than raised above it. This sunken relief technique gives the coin a completely flat profile, protecting the intricate details from wear. On the obverse, a Native American chief wearing a traditional feathered headdress is depicted in profile, surrounded by thirteen stars, the year 1911, and the word Liberty. The reverse displays a proud bald eagle standing amid the classic inscriptions of the United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and the Five Dollars denomination. Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, this innovative coin series was produced from 1908 to 1929. This specific coin from the San Francisco Mint has been certified in About Uncirculated 55 (AU-55) condition.
