In 1912, the Philadelphia mint produced a run of 405,000 ten-dollar gold coins, each containing 0.4838 troy ounces of gold. This issue belongs to a series minted from 1907 to 1933, representing a distinct era of United States coinage. This specific specimen has survived in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the bold details of its celebrated design. The obverse of the coin presents a creative departure from traditional imagery, showing Lady Liberty adorned with a Native American war bonnet. Thirteen stars arch over her head, symbolizing the original colonies, while her hair band displays the word LIBERTY. The year 1912 is positioned directly beneath her portrait. On the reverse, a proud bald eagle stands as the central focus. The design incorporates several key national inscriptions, including UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The face value is clearly marked at the bottom as TEN DOLLARS. This masterpiece of American numismatic art was originally created by the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
