1913 Buffalo Nickel Type-I MS-67 NGC

In 1913, a distinctive new five-cent piece captured the American spirit. This initial version, known as the Type I design, showcases a magnificent American bison standing proudly atop a raised mound of dirt on the reverse. The design was modified later in the same year, making this first variety a fascinating moment in United States coinage history. Crafted from a copper-nickel alloy, this particular specimen was produced at the Philadelphia Mint, which is indicated by the absence of a mint mark. Out of a mintage of 30,992,000, very few survive in such an extraordinary state of preservation. This coin has been certified in an exceptional Mint State 67 (MS-67) condition, offering a vivid look at the intricate details of the native portrait and the textured bison as they were originally intended to be seen.
