The 1913 gold double eagle, struck at the Denver Mint, stands as a testament to a transformative era often called the Renaissance of American Coinage. This twenty-dollar denomination represents a period when national currency was elevated to fine art, showcasing complex, high-relief imagery that departed from the rigid conventions of the nineteenth century. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted in a powerful forward stride, illuminated by the radiating rays of a rising sun. In her hands, she carries a torch to light the way and an olive branch. The reverse features a bald eagle captured mid-flight, soaring across the face of the coin. The upper curve of the reverse bears the inscription United States of America, while the lower portion displays the denomination, Twenty Dollars. The motto In God We Trust is also integrated into the design. This particular specimen is composed of 90 percent gold, containing 0.9675 troy ounces of the precious metal. Having survived more than a century in exceptional condition, it is certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63), preserving the intricate details envisioned by its creator, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, during a celebrated epoch of artistic renewal in United States minting.
