1913-S $10 Indian Gold Eagle AU-55 NGC

0.4838 troy oz .900 1913 NGC

In 1913, the San Francisco Mint struck a remarkably limited run of ten-dollar gold pieces, producing just 66,000 examples. This low mintage makes the issue a compelling subject for study, especially when preserved in an About Uncirculated state such as AU-55. The obverse presents a distinctive depiction of Liberty, who wears a Native American war bonnet instead of a traditional tiara. A band across her hair displays the word LIBERTY, while thirteen stars encircle the portrait to represent the original colonies, with the date 1913 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a proud bald eagle stands amidst the classic national mottos, including E PLURIBUS UNUM. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the ten-dollar denomination surround the central bird. This gold coin, composed of 90 percent pure gold with a net weight of 0.4838 troy ounces, also features a unique edge decorated with raised stars rather than standard reeding.
