In 1914, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 151,000 ten-dollar gold coins, each containing 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. This issue represents a fascinating era in American coinage, displaying a bold departure from traditional imagery. The coin is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, allowing observers to appreciate the fine details of its controversial and celebrated artwork. The front of the coin features a profile of Lady Liberty adorned with a Native American war bonnet, a creative choice that sparked much discussion. Thirteen stars arch over her head to represent the original colonies, while the year 1914 is positioned directly underneath the portrait. The word LIBERTY is visible along the band holding her hair. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle stands proudly. The design incorporates several key inscriptions, including UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination TEN DOLLARS. The traditional mottos E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST are also integrated into the field. This iconic design, created by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, was minted from 1907 to 1933.
