The 1914 five-cent piece stands as a classic representative of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, this copper-nickel coin belongs to the celebrated Indian Head series, which departed from traditional European-style allegorical figures in favor of distinctly North American imagery. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, preserving the clear details of its iconic artwork. On the obverse, the profile of an American Indian faces right, a composite portrait created by designer James Earle Fraser. The year 1914 is clearly visible at the lower left. The reverse showcases a massive American bison standing atop a raised mound. Below this mound, the "D" mint mark indicates its origin in Denver, situated just beneath the denomination of five cents. The legendary motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is also inscribed on the reverse, completing a design that remains one of the most celebrated in the history of United States currency.
