In 1914, the San Francisco Mint struck nearly one and a half million twenty-dollar gold pieces, continuing a design era that spanned from 1907 to 1933. This particular issue, composed of 90 percent gold with a precious metal content of 0.9675 troy ounces, stands as a classic example of twentieth-century American coinage. The coin has been graded in Mint State 65 (MS-65) condition, preserving its intricate details for modern observers to appreciate. The front of the coin presents a powerful image of Lady Liberty holding aloft a lit torch and an olive branch. She steps forward with the rays of a rising sun beaming behind her, encircled by forty-six stars representing the states of the Union at that time. Above her, the word Liberty is inscribed, alongside the 1914 date of manufacture. On the reverse, a majestic eagle glides through the sky, set against another burst of golden sunbeams. The inscriptions on this side clearly display the issuing nation, United States of America, the denomination of Twenty Dollars, and the motto, In God We Trust. The small S mint mark denotes its origin from the historic San Francisco facility.
