In 1915, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 351,000 ten-dollar gold pieces, today recognized as the Indian Gold Eagle. Struck from 90 percent pure gold, the coin contains just under half a troy ounce of precious metal, weighing in at 0.4838 ounces. The design of this issue presents a striking departure from traditional American coinage. The front displays a profile wearing a feathered ceremonial headdress, with the word LIBERTY spaced along the top border and the year 1915 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a proud eagle stands amidst the classic national mottos, including E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the country of origin and the face value of TEN DOLLARS. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin bears no mint mark, leaving its clean surfaces to showcase the engraving work of this era.
