1915 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle AU

0.1209 troy oz .900 1915 Almost Unc

The 1915 gold quarter eagle represents a fascinating departure from traditional coinage methods. Struck at the Philadelphia mint, this two and a half dollar gold piece features an incuse design, meaning the details are sunken into the coin's surface rather than raised above it. This flat surface style was a radical aesthetic experiment in American numismatics, resulting in a coin that feels entirely different to the touch. On the obverse, a left-facing male figure representing Liberty wears a detailed ceremonial headdress. Thirteen stars encircle this central image, accompanied by the word LIBERTY and the 1915 year of issue. The designer's initials, B.L.P., are also subtly placed on the obverse. Because this coin was produced in Philadelphia, it does not bear a mint mark. The reverse displays a proud bald eagle perched upon a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. The surrounding inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional mottoes E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST, and the face value of 2 1/2 DOLLARS. Minted with a purity of 0.900 gold, this coin contains 0.1209 troy ounces of precious metal and stands as a testament to a highly creative era of coinage design.
