The 1915 gold quarter eagle represents a fascinating departure from traditional coin minting. Unlike standard coinage with raised features, this United States issue utilizes an incuse design, meaning the details are recessed directly into the flat surface of the coin. This unusual technique gives the piece a distinct, flat profile while protecting the intricate details of the artwork from heavy wear. On the obverse, the coin displays a realistic portrait of a Native American chief wearing a traditional feathered headdress. Thirteen stars encircle this central figure, accompanied by the word LIBERTY and the 1915 date. The reverse is dedicated to a majestic bald eagle standing proudly, surrounded by the country of origin, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the denomination of 2 1/2 DOLLARS.
