In 1915, the Philadelphia Mint produced 588,000 of the five dollar gold half eagle coins. This particular issue stands out for its unusual and innovative design technique. Unlike traditional coinage where the features are raised, this coin features an incuse design, meaning the details are pressed deep into the flat surface of the gold.
