1915-D Buffalo Nickel XF

0.0000 troy oz 1915 Extra Fine

The 1915 Buffalo nickel stands as a classic representative of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, this five-cent piece is composed of copper and nickel, displaying the honest wear of a coin graded in Extra Fine condition. The design captures a distinctively American aesthetic, moving away from traditional neoclassical imagery to celebrate the heritage of the American West. On the obverse, a powerful right-facing profile of an American Indian dominates the field. The year 1915 is clearly visible on the lower left curve. The reverse of the coin features a massive American bison standing atop a raised mound of earth. Positioned beneath this mound is the distinctive "D" mint mark, indicating its origin at the Denver facility, along with the denomination of five cents. The legends on the reverse include the traditional national motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the country name, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Created by sculptor James Earle Fraser, the artwork on this coin remains celebrated for its realistic textures and bold composition. This circulated specimen offers a direct connection to the daily commerce of 1915, preserving the fine details of the native portrait and the bison's rugged form.
