1915-S Australia Gold 1/2 Sovereign AU
In 1915, the Sydney Mint in Australia produced a limited run of gold half sovereign coins, striking a total of 892,000 pieces. This particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of a bygone era of global gold coinage. Crafted from 0.9167 fine gold, the coin contains 0.1177 troy ounces of actual precious metal weight. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of King George V. Surrounding the royal bust is a partial Latin inscription, visible as GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT. OMN. REX F. D. IND. IMP., which translates to George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India. The reverse displays the classic numismatic masterpiece by Benedetto Pistrucci, depicting the legendary scene of Saint George on horseback, brandishing a sword to slay a mythical dragon. The year 1915 is anchored at the bottom of the design, alongside the subtle 'S' mint mark indicating its origin from the historic Sydney facility.
