1915-S Australia Gold 1/2 Sovereign BU
Struck during a pivotal moment in global history, this 1915 gold Half Sovereign represents a classic era of Australian coinage. Minted at the Sydney branch of the Royal Mint, the coin is composed of 91.67 percent pure gold, containing exactly 0.1177 troy ounces of the precious metal. It remains in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of its century-old artistry. The obverse of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of King George V. Surrounding the royal bust is the Latin inscription GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F. D., which translates to George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith. This formal portrait served as a symbol of authority across the British Empire during his reign. On the reverse, the coin features the highly acclaimed design by Benedetto Pistrucci depicting Saint George on horseback. The legendary warrior is shown in a dynamic pose, slaying a mythical dragon. The year 1915 is anchored at the bottom of the design, alongside the small 'S' mint mark that identifies its origin from the Sydney Mint. Only 892,000 of these half sovereigns were struck, making this particular issue a compelling piece of Australia's early twentieth-century coining legacy.
