The year 1916 marked the debut of one of America's most celebrated coin designs, the Walking Liberty half dollar. Struck at the Denver Mint, this early issue contains 0.3575 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. Even in an Almost Good state of preservation, the coin carries the unmistakable artistry of Adolph Weinman, whose work redefined United States coinage during the early twentieth century. On the obverse, a graceful figure of Lady Liberty is depicted moving toward the dawn of a new day, her form draped in the American flag as she cradles a bundle of oak and pine branches. The reverse features a powerful, detailed image of an eagle perched upon a mountain crag, wings partially spread as it prepares to launch into flight. Legible portions of the traditional inscriptions, including the national motto and the denomination, frame these classic American symbols.
