The year 1916 marked the debut of one of America's most celebrated coin designs. Struck at the Denver Mint, this Walking Liberty half dollar represents the very beginning of a legendary series. Crafted from 90% silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal, though its historical allure extends far beyond its silver content. The obverse features a graceful depiction of Lady Liberty walking toward the rising sun, cradling a bundle of branches in her arms. The inscriptions include the year 1916 and the classic motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. This design, created by Adolph Weinman, brought a new artistic vitality to American coinage during the early twentieth century. On the reverse, a powerful eagle is shown perched on a rocky crag, its wings spread wide as it prepares for flight. The legends surrounding the eagle include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination HALF DOLLAR. This particular coin has survived in Very Good condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation while retaining the essential details of its iconic imagery.
