1916-S Buffalo Nickel VF
The 1916-S Buffalo Nickel stands as a classic representative of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this five-cent piece showcases a distinct design by James Earle Fraser that departed from traditional neoclassical allegories, opting instead for subjects native to the North American continent. On the obverse, a detailed profile of a Native American faces right, accompanied by the word LIBERTY and the year 1916. The reverse of the coin features a standing American bison, positioned above the denomination of FIVE CENTS. The inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM are also present. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, preserving the bold, sculptural elements of Fraser's original artwork.
