0.3575 troy oz .900 1916 Very Good

The year 1916 marked the debut of one of America's most celebrated coin designs. Struck in 90% fine silver, this early half dollar contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Minted in Philadelphia, this coin survived in Very Good condition, displaying the honest wear of a piece that circulated through early twentieth-century commerce. Created by the sculptor Adolph Weinman, the obverse displays a powerful depiction of Lady Liberty. She is shown in stride toward a rising sun, her figure draped in the American flag while she cradles a bundle of oak and laurel branches in her left arm. The legend "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed alongside the 1916 date. On the reverse, a majestic eagle stands perched upon a rugged mountain crag. The bird is captured with its wings partially unfurled, preparing for flight. A pine sapling emerges from the rock, symbolizing strength and growth. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR" encircle this striking wildlife portrait.
