The 1917 Buffalo nickel, struck at the Denver Mint, stands as a classic representative of early twentieth-century American coinage. This five-cent piece, graded in Very Good condition, showcases a distinct design that departed from the traditional neoclassical imagery of its era, opting instead for subjects native to the North American continent. On the obverse, the profile of an American Indian faces right, accompanied by the word LIBERTY. The reverse displays a large American bison standing atop a raised mound of earth. Below this mound, the denomination is indicated, while the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM curve along the upper rim. Collectors can locate the Denver origin by the small D mint mark positioned on the reverse, just beneath the five-cent denomination.
