In 1917, the Denver Mint produced a ten-cent piece that remains a captivating example of American coinage. Minted in 90 percent silver, this coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents an early year in a celebrated design series that circulated widely during a transformative period in United States history. The obverse of the coin displays a youthful representation of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a feature that led the public to mistake her for the Roman messenger god, Mercury. This side bears the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" alongside the 1917 date. On the reverse, the imagery shifts to a fasces, which is bound together with an olive branch to symbolize both strength and peace. The traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is legible alongside the denomination, "ONE DIME." This particular specimen is preserved in Extra Fine condition, showcasing the distinct artistic details rendered by designer Adolph Weinman.
