The 1917-D Walking Liberty half dollar represents a fascinating moment in United States coinage. In this specific early issue from the Denver Mint, the 'D' mint mark is located on the obverse side, positioned just beneath the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST'. This placement makes the coin particularly intriguing to observers, as the mint mark location was changed later in the production run. Designed by Adolph Weinman, the obverse of this 90 percent silver coin displays a graceful figure of Lady Liberty wrapped in the folds of the American flag. She moves toward a rising sun while cradling branches in her arm. The year 1917 is inscribed at the bottom.
