1917-D Obverse Walking Liberty Half Dollar AG

0.3575 troy oz .900 1917 Almost Good

In 1917, the United States Mint struck a half dollar that remains celebrated for its artistic movement and classic American imagery. This silver coin, composed of 90 percent silver with 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal, features the work of designer Adolph Weinman. The Denver Mint placed its 'D' mint mark on the obverse side for this particular issue, a distinctive placement that makes it especially interesting to study. The obverse depicts a graceful Lady Liberty walking toward the rising sun, her figure draped in the American flag as she cradles a bundle of oak and laurel branches in her arm. This side also bears the legible inscription of the national motto, 'IN GOD WE TRUST'. On the reverse, a powerful eagle stands perched on a mountain crag, wings partially spread as if preparing to take flight from its rocky roost.
