In 1917, the Philadelphia Mint struck more than 55 million ten-cent pieces, commonly known as Mercury Dimes. Because they were produced in Philadelphia, these coins do not carry a mint mark. This particular silver coin survived the decades in exceptional condition, earning a certified grade of Mint State 64 with the highly sought-after Full Bands designation. The Full Bands distinction indicates that the horizontal bands wrapping the fasces on the reverse design are completely separated and sharply defined. This level of detail is rare, as the central part of the design often suffered from weak strikes during the minting process. Composed of 90 percent silver and containing 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal, this coin represents a classic era of United States coinage.
