Struck in 1917, this United States ten-cent piece is a remarkable survivor from the early twentieth century. Composed of 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, the coin is a classic representative of the beloved Mercury Dime series. This specific example remains in Extra Fine condition, though some gentle wear may be visible along its outer rim, reflecting its journey through circulation. The obverse of the coin displays a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design element intended to symbolize freedom of thought. Alongside this striking portrait, the traditional motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is clearly inscribed, accompanied by the 1917 year of issue. The design was created by the noted sculptor Adolph Weinman. On the reverse, the coin features a fasces, a bundle of rods bound around an axe, which is paired with an olive branch. These contrasting elements represent a readiness for national defense alongside a deep desire for peace. The surrounding inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "ONE DIME."
