1917-S Rev Walking Liberty Half Dollar Fine

0.3575 troy oz .900 1917 Fine

The 1917-S Walking Liberty half dollar represents an early entry in one of America's most celebrated silver coin series. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. This specific issue is distinguished by the placement of its 'S' mint mark, which is located on the reverse side of the coin. Designed by Adolph Weinman, the coin's obverse showcases a powerful depiction of Lady Liberty moving gracefully toward a rising sun while cradling a bundle of branches. The words 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and the year '1917' are clearly visible on this side. On the reverse, an eagle stands perched on a rugged rock formation, wings slightly spread as if preparing to launch into flight. This side also bears the inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', and the 'HALF DOLLAR' denomination. This particular specimen survives in Fine condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation while retaining the core details of Weinman's artistic vision.
