In 1917, the San Francisco mint produced a striking silver half dollar that remains a favorite among design enthusiasts. This particular issue features the mint mark on the reverse side of the coin, a placement choice that distinguishes it from other varieties of the same year. Struck in 90% silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and is preserved in Very Fine condition, showing moderate wear but retaining clear details of its celebrated artwork. Designed by sculptor Adolph Weinman, the coin's obverse presents a powerful image of Lady Liberty moving gracefully toward a rising sun while cradling a bundle of branches in her arm. The inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1917" are clearly visible on this face. On the reverse, a magnificent eagle is depicted perched upon a rugged rock, wings partially spread as if preparing for flight. The reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR," alongside the small "S" mint mark indicating its origin in San Francisco.
