1917-S Rev Walking Liberty Half Dollar VG
1917-S Rev Walking Liberty Half Dollar VG
Struck in 90% fine silver, this 1917 half dollar from the San Francisco Mint showcases one of the most celebrated designs in United States coinage. The coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and represents the early years of the beloved Walking Liberty series. This particular issue is notable for the placement of its mint mark on the reverse side. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted in mid-stride, walking toward a rising sun while cradling a bundle of branches in her arm. The legendary design, created by Adolph Weinman, also bears the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1917" beneath her feet. The reverse side displays a powerful eagle perched on a mountain crag, its wings partially spread as if preparing for flight. This side is inscribed with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR". The San Francisco "S" mint mark is located on this reverse face, a distinctive feature of the early 1917 issues before the mint mark location was relocated to the obverse.
