Struck in 1918, this United States silver half dollar commemorates the centennial of Illinois. The coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of silver and is composed of 90 percent silver. It is certified in Mint State 65 (MS-65) condition, preserving the intricate details of its dual-artist design. The obverse features a profile of Abraham Lincoln looking to the right. This side of the coin was designed by George T. Morgan, capturing the solemn expression of the sixteenth president. The inscriptions on this face include the word LIBERTY and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1918 date. On the reverse, the design showcases the Illinois State Seal, which was crafted by John R. Sinnock. The seal displays an eagle perched on a rock, holding a shield. The surrounding inscriptions read STATE OF ILLINOIS and the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the denomination HALF DOLLAR. The overall concept for this historic commemorative issue was designed by Daniel Chester French, and the total mintage for the release reached 100,058 pieces.
