In 1918, the United States marked a century of statehood for Illinois with a commemorative silver half dollar. Struck in 0.900 fine silver with a precious metal weight of 0.3617 troy ounces, this coin represents a significant moment in American commemorative coinage, celebrating the state's admission to the Union in 1818. The obverse of this fifty-cent piece features a profile bust of Abraham Lincoln, the legendary president who spent much of his life and early political career in Illinois. Surrounding the portrait are the familiar national inscriptions of liberty and trust. This side of the coin was designed by John Sinnock. On the reverse, the design showcases the official State Seal of Illinois. An eagle is depicted alongside the state motto, which honors national union and state sovereignty. This historic issue, graded in Extra Fine condition, remains a fascinating artifact from the end of the First World War era.
