Struck in 1918 at the San Francisco Mint, this United States half dollar represents a high point in American coinage design. Composed of 90% silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin has survived more than a century of circulation, carrying the honest wear of its journey through commerce. The obverse presents a powerful depiction of Lady Liberty, draped in the national flag, walking gracefully toward a rising sun. She cradles a bundle of oak and pine branches in her left arm, symbolizing the nation's strength and natural abundance, while her right arm is outstretched in a gesture of welcome. The legendary motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is visible in the field. On the reverse, a majestic eagle is perched atop a rugged mountain crag, its wings partially unfurled as if preparing to launch into flight. A pine sapling emerges from the rock, a detail that mirrors the natural themes on the obverse. This side also bears the traditional national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" alongside the denomination and country of origin, completing a design created by the celebrated sculptor Adolph Weinman.
