The 1919 Buffalo nickel stands as a classic representation of early twentieth century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this five cent piece showcases a bold design created by James Earle Fraser. The coin is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, allowing the original details of Fraser's artistry to remain remarkably sharp and clear. On the obverse, a powerful right facing portrait of a Native American dominates the field. The word LIBERTY is inscribed along the upper right edge, while the year 1919 is positioned at the lower left. Just below the date, the designer's initial F is clearly visible. This side of the coin captures a rugged, realistic aesthetic that departed from the more traditional neoclassical depictions of Liberty. The reverse of the coin features a magnificent American bison standing on a raised mound. Above the animal, the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is displayed, while the denomination FIVE CENTS is boldly inscribed along the bottom border.
