The 1919 Buffalo nickel, struck at the Denver Mint, represents a classic era of United States coinage. This five-cent piece, graded in Very Good circulated condition, carries the distinct character of a coin that has passed through many hands over the decades. Unlike the Philadelphia Mint issues of the same year which bear no mint mark, this coin proudly displays a 'D' on the reverse, indicating its origin in Colorado. On the obverse, the profile of an American Indian faces right, accompanied by the word 'LIBERTY' along the upper right rim. The design, created by James Earle Fraser, captures a powerful and dignified portrait. The reverse presents a massive American bison standing atop a raised mound, with the inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' positioned above, while the denomination 'FIVE CENTS' rests below the animal.
