1920 $20 St Gaudens Gold Double Eagle AU
Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this 1920 twenty-dollar gold piece represents a classic era of American coinage. The coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, composed of a 0.900 fine gold alloy. This specific issue is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only light wear on its high points while retaining much of its original luster. The obverse features a dynamic depiction of Lady Liberty stepping forward, illuminated by the rays of a rising sun. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is captured mid-flight, soaring across the design. The reverse also displays the inscriptions United States of America and Twenty Dollars. Along the edge, the traditional motto E Pluribus Unum is inscribed, with stars separating the individual words. This design series was produced from 1907 to 1933, making this 1920 issue a late-era example of the famous design type.
