The 1920 Buffalo nickel is a remarkable example of early twentieth-century American coinage, showcasing a design that departs from traditional classical allegories. Created by sculptor James Earle Fraser, the coin's obverse features a powerful, realistic portrait of an American Indian in profile. This side also bears the word LIBERTY and the year of production, 1920. On the reverse, a magnificent bison stands on a raised mound, dominating the field. The inscriptions read FIVE CENTS alongside the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. This particular issue was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which historically left its coins without a mint mark. Graded as Almost Uncirculated, this five-cent piece retains much of its original detail, allowing observers to appreciate the texture and depth of Fraser's celebrated artwork.
