1920 Buffalo Nickel XF
The 1920 Buffalo nickel stands as a classic example of American coinage, showcasing a design that departs from traditional classical allegories. Created by sculptor James Earle Fraser, the obverse of the five cent piece features a powerful, realistic portrait of a Native American facing right. The word LIBERTY is inscribed along the upper right edge, with the year 1920 clearly visible at the base of the neck. On the reverse, a magnificent American bison stands on a raised mound, a distinctive feature of this early variety. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM above the animal, while the denomination FIVE CENTS is placed below the mound. This particular coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which means it does not display a mint mark. It remains in Extra Fine condition, preserving the fine details of this iconic design.
