1920-D Buffalo Nickel VF

0.0000 troy oz 1920 Very Fine

The 1920-D Buffalo Nickel stands as a classic representative of early twentieth-century American coinage. Minted in Denver, this five-cent piece showcases a distinctively textured design that departs from traditional neoclassical coin imagery, opting instead for subjects native to the North American continent. On the obverse, a right-facing portrait of a Native American is rendered with realistic, rugged features. The simple inscription of the word LIBERTY curves along the upper right edge, while the date 1920 is clearly visible at the base of the neck. The reverse side depicts a massive American bison, often referred to as a buffalo, standing upon a raised mound of earth. This powerful animal occupies the center of the design, surrounded by the traditional national mottos and the denomination. The letter D is placed below the mound, indicating its origin at the Denver Mint.
