The 1920 ten-cent piece struck at the Denver Mint represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted in 90 percent silver, this coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Known widely as the Mercury Dime, the design actually depicts a youthful Liberty on the obverse, wearing a winged Phrygian cap that symbolized freedom of thought. On the reverse side, the design shifts to a bundle of rods bound around an ax, known as a fasces, which is accompanied by an olive branch.
