0.0715 troy oz .900 1920 Almost Unc

Struck in 1920 at the Philadelphia Mint, this ten-cent silver piece is a beautiful survivor from the early twentieth century. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen has survived in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its celebrated design. The obverse features a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design created by Adolph Weinman. This distinctive headgear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, giving rise to the popular nickname of the Mercury Dime. Legible inscriptions on this side include the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1920 date. On the reverse, the design presents a fasces, a bundle of rods bound around an axe, paired with an olive branch. The surrounding text displays the issuing authority, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the denomination, "ONE DIME", and the traditional Latin motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
