1920 Mexico Gold 20 Pesos AU
Struck during a classic era of Mexican coinage, this 1920 gold coin carries a face value of 20 Pesos. It is composed of 90 percent pure gold, containing exactly 0.4823 troy ounces of the precious metal. Released by the Banco de México, this piece belongs to a design series produced from 1917 to 1921, which also saw a brief revival in 1959. A total of 462,198 of these specific coins were minted in 1920. The obverse features the national coat of arms of Mexico, depicting an eagle perched upon a cactus while grasping a snake. The year of issue, 1920, is positioned just below the eagle's wing. Surrounding this central image is the national inscription, ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. The reverse is dominated by the highly detailed Aztec calendar stone, a masterpiece of pre-Columbian artistry. Alongside this complex emblem, the coin's inscriptions record its denomination and its metal content, including the words ORO PURO to denote its gold purity.
